Beyond the Social Model - Online Workshop

Beyond the Social Model - Online Workshop exploring model of disability and inclusive language

A 90-minute online workshop exploring models of disability and the role of language in creating inclusive environments.

Join us for this 90-minute online workshop exploring models of disability and the role that language plays in shaping inclusive practice.

We’ll look beyond the social model to explore the functional model of disability, what it is, why it matters, and how it can be used to better understand individual needs in a practical, meaningful way.

Language is always evolving, and this session creates space to explore that. We’ll look at how the words we use can impact people’s experiences, and how being open to learning, reflecting, and adapting our language can support more inclusive environments.

Drawing on our own experience and conversations with people with lived experience, we’ll support you to:

  • Build your confidence in using inclusive and respectful language
  • Better understand different models of disability and when to apply them
  • Reflect on your own practice and approach
  • Feel more comfortable having open conversations around disability

This workshop is designed to support you to move beyond awareness, helping you feel more confident in both your understanding and your day-to-day practice.
